What has been an area of success?
This quarter something that has been an area of success for me as well as something I genuinely enjoy has been our mental floss annotations. I love annotating text and taking Cornell style notes. I love organizing my thoughts in this format and using them to prepare for our tests. When I'm able to be organized, I learn better and understand the concepts better. For me this has been a success because I love using them as a resource to study with and as a tool for our open notes test.
This format of notes has set me up for success in humanities as well as my other classes because this is the best way to present my ideas and put them on paper. I have always loved documenting and note taking, so to have something I love as an assignment each week allows me to exhibit beautiful, clean cut work . I intend on continuing the use of these notes as the school year continues |
What skills do you intend to grow in?
An area I want to work on for the remaining of the school year and grow in would be a balance of schoolwork and sports. I am fortunate to be able to participate in sports outside of school, and as this year I have struggled to create a schedule that allows me to get all my work done that doesn't involve me skipping a practice. Being at HTHNC I know the importance of time management, and I know that if I have eight pages worth of notes due on Friday, that I am going to have to complete some of it at home. Overall I'm lucky to have a practice that starts at a later time, and as the year progresses I know how to spread out my work and get assignments completed on time.
Another skill I want to master before the year ends is edmodo, which is the base for all announcements regarding humanities. I personally find edmodo similar to Facebook, which for me is hard to navigate, and with the site crashing and not letting me submit assignments, it's crucial that I learn the ropes to edmodo since it does determine the dates in which my teachers receive my work. |
What connections between subjects have you made?
Some connections I've made in Humanities to other classes as well as the outside world is one: the power of Shakespeare. Before this class I didn't realize the impact Shakespeare has on the modern world. We owe him over seventeen thousands words he created. These range from "knock, knock! who's there?" to "wild goose chase". It's remarkable that phrases and words we use everyday came from a playwright.
Another connection I made in this class was how history can repeat itself. As we learn more and more about world history, it's easy to make connections to the 2016 election. |
