What has been an area of success for you?
Why?
A success I found this semester was my vision board collage. When we started this project I was really excited to experiment with different textures and patterns with multiple layers. I love to create clusters in my work and overlap different elements. This piece not only combined mediums I loved but also represented different aspects of my life. we took different ideas from our "look at me now" paragraphs and were challenged to create a vision board that compiled those messages as well as things about ourselves we knew that others didn't, and vice versa (these were stereotypes that are given to us). Through this particular piece, I got to know a little more about myself as well as create a mixed media collage, which is one of my favorite type of pieces.

What skills do you still need to grow in?
For the remainder of the year I want to grow in my painting skills as well as my watercolor. For me, I need to work on accepting that it's better to let the watercolor do what it wants and then go back once it dries for the second coat. watercolor is not a forgiving material, and when it comes to art I want to work on slowing down my process of painting and crafting beautiful work. I want each of my pieces to be ones I'm proud of, and I want to continue to grow this year in these areas.

What connections have you made to the outside world?
With our 'art for social change' activity we did, I really got a better understanding of different types of art as well as how we can create change in so many different ways. I looked into poetry and more specifically the artist Rupi Kaur, who uses her words to craft poems of women's rights, inequality, and how we need more peace in our world. Looking at so many categories of social change I made connections to current topics that are happening in our world today such as predigest against muslims, LGBT rights, and racism. I also realized that just like the social change artists we researched, we can make a difference and start a conversation about these issues.
