Life of Pi
By: Yann Martel
Overview:
In this soul searching book, part of our religion segment, I got to explore the world of Pi as his family sells their zoo in hopes of going to Canada. On their trip across the sea they get into a shipwreck and Pi ends up on a life boat with a orangutan, zebra, hyena, and a Bengal tiger named Richard parker. As his adventure progresses the survivors are killed off until it's just himself, the tiger, and his religion that motivates him to keep fighting to live. In this book I got to experience the true meaning of hope as well as conquering your fears of the unknown. The Life of Pi tells a story of trusting the enemy, in this case a tiger which is feared by all. When Pi is finally rescued he tells officials a much different story, a story of a boy stranded alone in a life boat, the other survivors including his mother killed off until he is the only one left, with only his religion to give him strength to live. |
