Room with a view
Artist statement:
For this piece, we had to create a window in black and white, with only the view beyond it in color. For my window, I wanted to create a window that wasn’t the usual square window, so i decided to create a more spanish styled, arched cutout window frame, using the rich black and white sharpie to create pillars on each side with orange and brown toned mountain ranges in the background. When it came to color I wanted to use really vibrant greens in the trees below and more soft browns and oranges for the hill tops. Since the windows had to be all black and white, by creating the cutouts in the frame, I could add more color to my picture and add more character. For me, looking out to a mountain range with a stream and forest is bliss, and I really wanted to capture that feeling in my drawing.
