Symbolic self portrait
Artist statement:
For this piece, I really wanted to showcase who I was without using my face. We had the requirements, and for each one I tried to think outside the box. For the flowers in the book, I tried to use symbolic colors, taking the favorite colors of my closest friends as well as using my grandpas favorite flowers. I encorporated waves to symbolize the fact that I’m on a swim team, also using the faded blue as a way to create height in my work. On the top of the I put the face of a typewriter to showcase my passion for writing, creating symbolic numbers and letters on the keys such as my initials, my best friends, and my little sister’s birthday. To incorporate the required hand, i faded it into the steam coming from the cup of tea which rested on top of a book, which are both very important to me and a big part of my life.
